Drafting Moritz Wagner

The Lakers filled a couple of needs with the selection of Moritz Wagner with the No. 25 overall pick: shooting and size.

Wagner played professionally in Germany as a teenager and spent three years at Michigan, so he is more experienced than most players his age (21 years old).

Wagner’s offensive game is NBA-ready, while his defense is suspect and needs work. Still, the Lakers could use his seven-foot frame to clog the paint as he increases his strength and size working with professional trainers.

The center spot was one of the the biggest needs for the Lakers heading into the offseason. Using their first round pick on a big man who can stretch the floor was a clever move by Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka.
