Houston Rockets: How will Carmelo Anthony fit in next year?
By Jason Elbaum
The verdict
Overall, this is an excellent signing for the Houston Rockets. Anthony arrives to Mike D’Antoni’s squad after a disappointing season in Oklahoma City both for Anthony individually and for the Thunder as a team. The former national champion at Syracuse University will be hungrier than ever to prove he is still an elite player in the NBA while playing on the veteran minimum.
It is also worth noting that Anthony has never been on a team that has played in the NBA Finals, so his intentions to compete for a ring are clear with his decision to team up with Chris Paul and James Harden. These players have experience playing together in USA basketball and in pickup games outside of league play.
There is no doubt that Rockets jerseys with the No. 7 and the name Anthony will be flying off the racks this season. Anthony’s 3-pointers will keep the fans entertained and should help the team win in the process. It’ll be interesting to see if Anthony can accept a reduced role with fewer touches on his new team, but on paper, this team looks to be lethal offensively.
