How he affects the current roster

The Houston Rockets now have a situation where the team has a plethora of options to play the small forward and power forward positions. They bring back P.J. Tucker, Gerald Green and Ryan Anderson while adding James Ennis and Carmelo Anthony. There is a good chance Anthony wins the right to start in one of these spots when training camp begins.

If Anthony can prove he is capable of guarding opposing power forwards, the Rockets could roll out a lineup of Chris Paul, James Harden, P.J. Tucker, Carmelo Anthony and Clint Capela. This would be a lethal group in transition with all of the 3-point shooting ability and Harden’s talent of finishing at the rim.

Melo will likely give way to his teammates when Mike D’Antoni wants to play with a more defensive mindset, as Anthony is not known for his ability to lock down defenders. There is no denying that he adds a level of depth to the roster that opponents will envy, and Anthony can play big minutes at more than one position for the Rockets this season.
