How he fits

Adding a player like Carmelo Anthony who can play both the small forward and power forward positions helps the Rockets tremendously. Purely from a positional need standpoint, this is a great move for the Rockets. At 6’8″ Anthony can play multiple positions and create matchup problems for opponents when the Rockets are on offense.

Anthony’s greatest asset that he can bring to the Rockets is without a doubt his ability to knock down 3-pointers. He is a career 34.7 percent shooter from beyond the arc and should be provided tons of open opportunities alongside Chris Paul and James Harden. Defenders will be preoccupied trying to defend these two playmakers that Anthony should be open on the perimeter more often than not.

This ability to catch and shoot on 3-pointers is something the Rockets definitely need with Paul and Harden driving the lane. Anthony can join Eric Gordon and P.J. Tucker as excellent options to pass to on the perimeter for the team’s guards. Anthony can also make plays for himself in isolation, taking some pressure off Harden and Paul to create the offense.
