Brooklyn Nets: 5 goals for Dzanan Musa’s rookie season

3. Hit the weight room
Speaking of physicality, Musa will be facing an uphill battle in that respect. Before the draft, he clocked in at just under 200 pounds, which isn’t going to fly for an NBA wing.
Merely examining pictures of Musa can bring readers to the same conclusion: The dude needs to pump some serious iron. This is not uncommon for European perimeter prospects due to the crafty, methodical style that the non-bigs play overseas.
Ideally, Musa reaches about 230-250 pounds as he matures into his prime. That’s more of a long-term goal, but in the short-term he needs more bulk just to stay on the floor.
Nonetheless, Musa also has to balance this weight training with his own body. Putting on too much weight too quickly can cause injury, as we’ve seen with players like Ben Simmons and Blake Griffin in their “rookie” seasons.
While probably the most difficult thing for Musa to work on, it is also the most important for his career long-term. Without a capable body, a player cannot stay on the court.
