Portland Trail Blazers: 2017-18 player grades for Evan Turner
Evan Turner just completed his second season with the Portland Trail Blazers. How can we grade his 2017-18 campaign?
Portland Trail Blazers wing Evan Turner is one of the more polarizing players in franchise history after only two seasons. 2018-19 is year three of a four-year, $70 million contract. The point of contention for Rip City fans is that he hasn’t quite lived up to his deal so far.
Turner played 79 games in 2017-18, with 40 starts, the most he has had since his 2014-15 season with the Boston Celtics. He spent the year swapping positions on the small forward depth chart with Maurice Harkless. Ultimately, Turner closed out the season as a starter when Harkless was sidelined with left knee issues.
Turner averaged 8.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game in 2017-18. All of those numbers were drop-offs from the season before. He struggled to shoot when the ball was in play, going 44.7 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from 3-point range. However, he did shoot a decent 85.0 percent from the free throw line.
With his eighth year as a pro in the books, how can we grade Evan Turner’s 2017-18 season?
