Philadelphia 76ers: 3 reasons trading Richaun Holmes was a mistake
By Derek Hryn
One of the latest moves made by the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason was trading power forward Richaun Holmes. Here’s why he should still be in the City of Brotherly Love.
The Philadelphia 76ers have stayed true to former general manager Sam Hinkie’s “Trust The Process” motto of the past five years, but it didn’t appear that way with Richaun Holmes.
Holmes has been one of the 76ers’ fan favorites since being drafted as a second round steal in 2015. His emphatic dunks, followed by his signature emotion after big plays, never failed to ignite the crowd during games.
The team recently cut ties with the three-year vet in a deal with the Phoenix Suns in order to pave the way for Australian draft-and-stash product Jonah Bolden.
The Sixers had one of the most intimidating defenses in the NBA last season, and it was thanks in part to the effort that Holmes provided off the bench.
His athletic presence and weak-side shot-blocking ability made him a clear threat for opposing players in the lane.
As the team moves forward with a new agenda in mind, here’s why they will miss having the 24-year-old defender in the red, white and blue.
