The New Orleans Pelicans had a busy offseason, one that could change the direction of the organization for years to come.
After a surprise appearance in the second round of the playoffs, the New Orleans Pelicans went into the offseason looking to build on what was ultimately a successful 2017-18 season.
Whether or not they actually did, though, is up for debate as the team added and subtracted quite a few talented players.
New Orleans acquired point guard Elfrid Payton and forward Julius Randle, bringing more depth and versatility to the roster, but lost All-Star DeMarcus Cousins to the Golden State Warriors, only strengthening what was already an all-time great team.
The team also let Rajon Rondo walk in free agency, a guy who was looked at by many as a key reason for the Pelicans’ postseason achievements.
After Golden State and the Houston Rockets, it’s pretty much a toss-up for the remaining six playoff spots, with as many as 10 other teams vying for a spot in the Western Conference playoff picture.
It’ll be interesting to see whether or not the Pelicans’ offseason deals move them closer or further from the ultimate prize given the foundation they appeared to set last season.
