Recounting Devin Harris’ complicated history with the Dallas Mavericks
So … what now?
Devin Harris played in a total of 71 games last season, tying his most since the 2010-11 season. He’s still a capable ball-handler, and he’ll give head coach Rick Carlisle a solid 20 minutes every night.
Dallas not only lost Ferrell, they failed to retain Doug McDermott, Nerlens Noel and Seth Curry. The roster is dramatically different and younger than last season. This makes his chemistry with J.J. Barea, Dirk Nowitzki and the other Maverick mainstays from the past few seasons invaluable.
He will also be tasked with helping to develop rookie Jalen Brunson into a reliable scorer off the bench. Brunson, the No. 33 pick in the draft, averaged only 6.8 points on 22.7 percent shooting at Summer League.
Despite being traded by Mark Cuban and company multiple times, Harris has no ill-will towards the team. He’ll bring a level of professionalism and maturity that is synonymous with the Mavericks organization. Hopefully, Harris is kept in Dallas to end his career where it began.
