Dallas Mavericks: 3 goals for Kostas Antetokounmpo’s rookie season
1. Implement himself as a regular rotation backup
As raw as a prospect Kostas Antetokounmpo is, he still processes enough skill and athleticism to become a productive contributor for the Dallas Mavericks.
As per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Kostas can only spend 45 days with the NBA roster before his contract would have to become fully guaranteed. The fully guaranteed contract would equate to a full-time roster spot on the team and Dallas’ investment in his potential would be a welcome sight.
Even though his offensive game needs a ton of development, it’s his defensive prowess that will keep him on the floor and part of the regular rotation for the Mavs’ second unit.
Whether the role will be at the center position or one of the forward spots (less likely, due to his limited floor-spacing capabilities), there is an opportunity for Kostas to prove himself worthy and provide valuable minutes. If he were to complete this goal, Kostas would easily be one of the biggest steals from the 2018 NBA Draft.
The big man will need to accomplish the first two goals in order to have a chance at turning his 45 days into a legitimate spot on the Dallas Mavericks’ roster. Despite all his limitations and raw skill, Kostas Antetokounmpo will have to work extremely hard and develop his game quickly in order to match the All-Star standards set by his oldest brother. As Kevin Garnett once said, “Anything is possible.”
