The Boston Celtics loomed large as one of the 2018 NBA offseason’s prime movers. With the majority of game-changing transactions seemingly out of the way for general manager Danny Ainge, have they been able to solidify their contention in the East?
Despite the popular belief that the Boston Celtics might attempt a power move in the Eastern Conference this offseason, they have chosen to run it back with largely the same squad that made an incredible run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2017-18.
With two All-Stars in Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward set to return for opening night, it’s certainly arguable that by standing pat, they are still set to make their ascension to the top of the East. Despite not going all out to acquire the two major names floating in the player movement winds, Brad Stevens will in all likelihood go into the season feeling that his squad is the best positioned team in the conference to chase a title in June.
The Celtics brought back some key players through the 2018 NBA Draft and free agency period, diving in and selecting a talented big man late in the first round that has made an auspicious start to his NBA career to say the least.
With the Celtics’ 15-man roster on the brink of being finalized, let’s take a look at three takeaways from the offseason so far in Boston.
