2020: Anthony Davis, PF, New Orleans Pelicans

Before you get too excited, there’s a very good chance Anthony Davis isn’t interested in leaving the New Orleans Pelicans. He hasn’t been shy about his commitment to the team in the past. Then again, a lot can change in the next two years.

Plus, these are “dream” targets, so why not include one of the true unicorns of the NBA?

With that being said, we can’t completely ignore the breadcrumbs that have been dropped about the Brow’s potential interest in coming westward. First, there were rumors in February 2017 about Davis and Russell Westbrook joining forces in Los Angeles. Obviously that isn’t going to happen with Westbrook under contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder until at least 2022, but Davis could theoretically still be interested in the move.

Then, reports recently surfaced of AD purchasing a piece of LA real estate, which always seems to get Lakers fans fired up.

Can you see the non-existent (probably) lines I’m connecting here? Yeah, me neither.

And yet, especially with LeBron now a Laker, the speculation will continue to run rampant until Davis signs a new deal with the Pelicans. That time will probably come in 2020, when he inevitably opts out of his current contract to obtain his well-deserved bump in pay.

Until then, though, expect more starry-eyed Lakers fans to wish and wonder if Davis will be donning the purple and gold some day. Who knows? It’s not like many NBA followers would have predicted James calling Staples Center home.
