Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 reasons Kevin Love extension makes no sense
1. What if Kevin Love isn’t a superstar?
Before getting traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Kevin Love used to be a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves. During his six-year stint with the Wolves, Love proved himself as an elite scorer and rebounder, averaging 19.2 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. There was one thing, though, that he couldn’t do: lead his team to the playoffs
This obviously begs the question: What if Kevin Love doesn’t pick up where he left off? What if he remains a borderline All-Star in the league and can’t elevate this team back to the postseason? Well, in that case, the Cleveland Cavaliers are pretty much with their backs up against the wall.
With no valuable future picks and no salary cap room in order to sign a big name like Kemba Walker or Kawhi Leonard, the future of basketball in Cleveland will quickly look blurry.
As a result, Kevin Love will have to play out of his mind and keep Cleveland relevant in order to justify general manager Koby Altman’s big decision.
