Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 reasons Kevin Love extension makes no sense
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Kevin Love have agreed on a four-year, $120 million extension, thus keeping him in Ohio for this new era in Cleveland.
In 2015, Kevin Love entered free agency for the first time in his career, as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The two sides agreed on a five-year, $113 million contract that would keep him in The Land for a long time. This contract also included a player option for the 2019-20 NBA season.
It comes as no surprise that Cleveland has faced a number of big changes during the past month, with the biggest one being the departure of LeBron James. The harsh reality is that the team is no longer contending for a championship, as the main goal at the moment would be a playoff spot in this weak Eastern Conference.
Nevertheless, the front office of the Cleveland Cavaliers still appears to have faith in the 29-year-old power forward out of UCLA. And what better way to show it than a huge extension that will make Kevin Love the centerpiece of the franchise for years to come?
As reported by ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst, the Cavs have signed Love to a four-year, $120 million extension that will keep him in Cleveland for the next five years:
Last season, Love averaged 17.6 points and 9.3 rebounds in 28 minutes per game as the clear second option behind none other than LeBron James.
However, this might not be the best move the Cleveland Cavaliers could have made. Here are three reasons why the Cavaliers might have made a mistake when it comes to this extension.
