Conclusion

To recap, Ernie Grunfeld’s tenure in Washington started off by signing Gilbert Arenas and trading for Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler, elevating the team into good but not great territory, where they consistently lost in the early rounds of the playoffs.

Later on, Grunfeld switched strategies, opting to rebuild the Wizards through the draft by selecting John Wall, Bradley Beal and Otto Porter, elevating the team back into good not great territory, where… they still consistently lose in the early rounds of the playoffs.

Ernie Grunfeld is nothing if not consistent.

If you aren’t fully catatonic at this point and find yourself defending any of these transactions, it’s okay, you’re just experiencing denial. The sooner you move to pain and anger, the quicker we can get you to acceptance, hope and on your way towards a full recovery.

So given all of the mediocre results, what has changed in the Wizards front office? Under the Ernie Grunfeld regime, Washington has gone through five different head coaches. Apparently, the buck doesn’t stop with Ernie.

Instead, Grunfeld is more than likely to sign that buck on a five-year deal for 200 percent above face value with the option to earn the most in its last year, forcing him to eventually trade the buck for a handful of nickels and dimes.

I think it’s time for the Washington Wizards to finally move on from Ernie Grunfeld.
