5. Oklahoma City Thunder

Since the departure of Kevin Durant after their devastating defeat to the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 Western Conference Finals, the Oklahoma City Thunder have been stuck in NBA mediocrity. The roster has failed to facilitate any semblance of team chemistry, and they’ve been bounced in the first round of the playoffs the past two years in convincing fashion.

The franchise has already achieved its two biggest goals this offseason. Russell Westbrook was able to convince Paul George to re-sign, and management found a way to rid itself of Carmelo Anthony.

They could boost production at the 2-spot by using their mid-level exception to sign D-Wade. Current shooting guard Andre Roberson has failed to impress on the offensive end through his first five seasons, averaging only 4.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Though Wade is doubtful to become a starter at this stage, he would be a viable option off the bench.

If he signs with OKC, he could make his biggest contributions in the playoffs. Head coach Billy Donovan could limit his minutes through the regular season, much like Gregg Popovich is known to do with his aging players in San Antonio. Wade has proven he’s still a threat in the postseason. He averaged 15.8 points in 28.6 minutes per game the last two years, and could provide the championship pedigree and leadership the Thunder are lacking.
