1. Reggie Jackson

Reggie Jackson currently has two years remaining on the contract he signed in 2015. The team would have to make a trade to get his deal off the books, but would be wise to do so. Jackson struggles with injuries and is unable to shoot outside the paint.

Despite his ability to drive, he has never been a natural distributor to waiting teammates. He’s reached the ceiling of what he’ll become, and he’s slowing down the development of players like Bruce Brown Jr.

Jackson flashed some shooting ability in 2016-17 as he shot 35.9 percent from 3-point range. He then came back down to Earth when he shot 30.8 percent from 3 this past season. Jackson needs shooters around him to space the floor, which the Pistons don’t have.

As Jackson ages further into his prime, the injuries could start to sap him of his athleticism. If Brown is the future of the point guard position, the Pistons should rid themselves of Jackson sooner rather than later.

The NBA is changing, and players like Jackson are becoming further obsolete. He still possesses value to the right team, if they need an upgrade at point guard. However, most teams will be content to sit with the assets they have until the Golden State Warriors‘ death grip on the NBA loosens. It will be interesting to see how the Pistons handle the point guard position as the season goes on.
