2. Stanley Johnson

Stanley Johnson was drafted to be the team’s 3-and-D wing of the future. While he’s done a great job on the defensive end, his offense has left much to be desired. His 3-point percentage has decreased every season of his career. The team brought in Robinson to push Johnson for the starting spot. He has a very realistic chance of doing so if he shoots at just an above-average clip.

Johnson gives the team the ability to be long and versatile on defense, but his inability to shoot saps what little floor-spacing they have. Their Big 3 of Griffin, Drummond and Reggie Jackson all shoot below 32.4 percent from 3-point range for their careers.

While Johnson has the ability to be strong on offense, he has yet to be consistent on that end. He too frequently can disappear or put up bad shots, rather than using his athleticism to get to the rim.

Shooting is a premium in today’s NBA. Every season, teams continue to shatter 3-point shooting records. Although defenders are still needed, especially on the wings, spacing is always needed. If Johnson is unable to show development on his consistency and shooting ability, the Pistons could let him go at season’s end.
