Brooklyn Nets: How will Shabazz Napier fit in next season?
By Alec Liebsch
After agreeing to sign Shabazz Napier to a two-year contract, the Brooklyn Nets have enhanced their once-lost guard depth. Here’s how the newbie will fit in.
It’s all about the guards for the Brooklyn Nets. After clearing up the once-clogged guard rotation, general manager Sean Marks poached guard Shabazz Napier on a two-year deal.
Napier has seen quite a few franchises in his NBA tenure, which seems to be a prerequisite for any Marks signing. From being LeBron James‘ desired selection by the Miami Heat (via trade) in 2013, to the then-dysfunctional Orlando Magic, to a significant role with the contending Portland Trail Blazers, Napier has seen most ends of the spectrum.
Here in Brooklyn, Napier will be part of a unique fragment of said spectrum: a young team with playoff aspirations. If that sounds crazy, just take a look at the Eastern Conference. A bottom seed in the playoff bracket is attainable if things break properly.
As a versatile guard, Napier is primed for not only Kenny Atkinson’s system, but the modern NBA as a whole. How does he fit in? Will he get sufficient minutes? Will LeBron finally come now that his favorite draftee is in Brooklyn? All these questions, and more, are right at your fingertips.
