Doug McDermott: 3 years, $22 million (Indiana Pacers)
Shooting is a premium in the modern NBA, and if you don’t believe it, take a look at the contract Doug McDermott just got despite being so defensively challenged. Outside of bringing Larry Bird out of retirement or signing Jimmy Chitwood himself, this is the most Hoosier signing possible.
Still, despite McBuckets joining his fifth team entering his fifth season as a pro, and despite his glaring flaws on that end, this is a decent deal for the Indiana Pacers, who eventually found their wing after missing out on Will Barton and Joe Harris.
The Pacers needed additional wing depth with Bojan Bogdanovic and Thaddeus Young having one year left on their deals, Dougie Fresh is only 26 years old and his annual salary is less than $8 million. Plus, 3-point shooting never hurts, and McD can certainly provide that spacing for Victor Oladipo as a career 40.3 percent shooter from deep.
