2018 NBA free agency tracker: Grades for every deal so far
Mike Scott: 1 year, $4.3 million (Los Angeles Clippers)
Assuming this is for the veteran minimum, it’ll be a one-year, $1.9 million arrangement for Mike Scott to join the Los Angeles Clippers in 2018-19. That’s pretty terrific value for a guy who posted 8.8 points and 3.3 rebounds in just 18.5 minutes per game last season in Washington.
Playing in 76 games for the Wizards, Scott was the team’s most reliable scorer with the second unit. Even better, he shot a tidy 52.7 percent from the field and knocked down 40.5 percent of his 2.1 attempts from 3-point range every night.
With the Clippers letting DeAndre Jordan go and Montrezl Harrell being a restricted free agent this summer, having some extra frontcourt depth makes sense. Scott will help the team without making it too good, while still preserving cap space for a run at free agents next summer. Whether it’s a minimum contract or not, this is a nice short-term pickup for a rebuilding franchise.
