It’s the end of an era for the San Antonio Spurs. Not only is Kawhi Leonard likely on the way out, but now Tony Parker is abandoning ship in advance, joining his fellow Frenchman Nicolas Batum on the Charlotte Hornets.
After coming back from an injury, Parker was replaced in the starting lineup by promising youngster Dejounte Murray, and with the Spurs looking toward the future, the 36-year-old legend was ready for a new challenge. This is a bit of an overpay for someone who had a minimal impact last year, however.
In Charlotte, he’ll be the chief backup behind Kemba Walker, and a possible replacement if the team decides to move its All-Star starter. Parker only posted 7.7 points and 3.5 assists in 19.6 minutes per game last year, so he’ll hardly be a difference-maker, but this is a nice injection of experience and poise off the Hornets’ bench.
