Dante Cunningham: 1 year, $2.1 million (San Antonio Spurs)
With Kawhi Leonard’s days in Texas presumably numbered, the San Antonio Spurs continue to scrape the bottom of bargain bin in a search for wing depth. The latest move is agreeing to a one-year deal with veteran Dante Cunningham, most likely for the veteran minimum.
Last season in 73 games between the Nets and Pelicans, Cunningham averaged 5.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in 21.4 minutes per game, shooting 34.5 percent from 3-point range overall, but a more impressive 38.3 percent in his 22 appearances in Brooklyn.
Cunningham is 31 years old, he’s only a career 33.2 percent shooter from distance and he’s hardly going to move the needle if Kawhi leaves, but the Spurs may take a platoon approach to replacing their superstar wing in the event of a trade. Cunningham is a smart player and committed defender who can provide decent bench minutes in the early stages of a potential rebuild.
