Devin Harris: 1 year, $2.4 million (Dallas Mavericks)
Doug McDermott was worth taking a flier on, but the Dallas Mavericks are now able to bring back Devin Harris, their beloved backup guard who was sent to the Nuggets as part of the three-team deal that shipped him off for McBuckets in the first place. On a minimum contract, this is solid value that returns a familiar face.
At 35 years old, Harris’ best days are clearly behind him, but he still averaged 8.4 points and 2.1 assists in 18.9 minutes per game last season, and his presence as a locker room mentor who’s familiar with the Mavs’ culture will help Dennis Smith Jr. and Luka Doncic grow into their own.
With Yogi Ferrell reneging on his agreement with Dallas, Harris adds a measure of backcourt stability, even it the rotation feels a bit crowded between DSJ, Doncic, Jalen Brunson, J.J. Barea and now Harris. With that being said, the Mavs hated parting with him, so bringing him back represents a happy reunion between a rising team and a respected vet.
