15 stars you forgot played for the Detroit Pistons
By Amaar Burton
13. Caron Butler
Caron Butler was often overshadowed during a lengthy career that happened to coincide with a golden era for small forwards in the NBA, but he still managed to collect two All-Star nods and a championship ring before he was done.
Butler’s best years were with the Wizards, when he was part of a “Big 3” with fellow stars Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison. In addition to making both of his All-Star Game appearances with the Wizards, Butler also achieved his career-highs in scoring (20.8 points), rebounding (7.4), assists (4.9), and steals per game (2.2) while he was in Washington.
In 2011, Butler won a championship with the Dallas Mavericks, although a knee injury sidelined him for the team’s entire playoff run.
After a few more pit stops around the league, Butler landed in Detroit as a 34-year-old free agent in 2014. He played just one season for the Pistons, his second-to-last season in the NBA. Butler averaged 5.9 points for Detroit in 20 minutes per game as a part-time starter on a lottery team.
