2. Tracy McGrady
The Hall of Fame career of Tracy McGrady was known for incredible scoring outputs and early playoff exits — neither of which happened during his one-year run with the Pistons.
During his prime years with the Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets, T-Mac led the NBA in scoring twice and was usually good for 25-30 points every night, but he was never able to lead a team past the first round of the playoffs.
Most of the time it was simply a case of McGrady’s teams not having enough talent and running into better-constructed opponents who were favored to win the series. Sometimes it was due to injuries getting in the way of McGrady’s on-count brilliance.
By the time T-Mac arrived in Detroit as a free agent in 2010, he was only 31 years old but he was almost a shell of his best self thanks to those injuries.
McGrady averaged 8.0 points per game for the Pistons, his lowest output since he was an 18-year-old rookie for the Toronto Raptors. He showed a few flashes of vintage T-Mac in Detroit, but overall it was a subpar experience.
The 2010-11 Pistons missed the playoffs, too, so at least McGrady didn’t have to add another first round loss to his resume.
McGrady left in free agency and landed in Atlanta, where he scored a career-low 5.3 points per game and lost in the first round of the playoffs again. In 2013, however, McGrady finished his career by joining the Spurs right before the postseason and made it all the way to the NBA Finals.
