Los Angeles Lakers: 5 takeaways from 2018 NBA Summer League

2. The Lakers continue to play well in Las Vegas
It may not have ended the way they wanted, but the Lakers have proven they play to win at Summer League.
The 91-73 loss to the Portland in the championship game was the Lakers’ only defeat in Las Vegas this year. They beat their opponents by an average of 14.6 points, finishing 6-1 over the 10-day tournament.
In 2017, the Lakers summer squad went 6-2, defeating Portland in the final.
Though some will argue wins and losses don’t mean much in Summer League, it’s encouraging to see the Lakers making deep runs in the annual offseason tournament.
The roster is helmed by assistant coach Miles Simon, who seems to have pushed all the right buttons with his young players.
Simon will likely be back next summer coaching a team that could feature a lot of the same players. It will be interesting to see if the Lakers can make a third straight Summer League title run in 2019.
