1. The Spurs will be just fine (as always)
It’s always easy to overlook the San Antonio Spurs. They make it easy because they quietly go about their business the same way year after year. Spurs basketball is seldom pretty and never flashy, but it is always effective. No matter who is on the floor they find a way to run good sets and get good looks.
Next season, they will be entering a period of rebuilding for the first time in recent memory, but this doesn’t mean they won’t compete. Spurs basketball will remain Spurs basketball no matter what players the roster is comprised of.
After watching the Spurs in the 2018 NBA Summer League, it is clear that they have a wealth of options for next season. They have great players developing in the G League with the Austin Spurs, some of whom were able to showcase their talent in the last few games. In addition to the players already discussed, there are several others who showed potential and who deserve consideration for training camp.
As the Spurs transition into their rebuild it will be important for them to keep an open mind when it comes to roster construction. Lonnie Walker IV is the most likely of the bunch to achieve stardom, but don’t sleep on some of the Spurs’ other Summer League standouts.
