New York Knicks: 5 disappointments from 2018 NBA Summer League
4. Shooting guard Allonzo Trier
The Knicks were lucky to land former Arizona shooting guard Allonzo Trier. There was growing speculation that Trier would get selected in the second round, but he ended up going undrafted. The Knicks reaped the benefits, quickly signing Trier to a two-way contract.
Trier is a worthwhile prospect to have in the pipeline. He was a gifted scorer at Arizona, averaging 16.8 points per game in his career. That scoring prowess was enough to garner attention from NBA teams, but he struggled at the start of Summer League.
Trier shot 0-for-7 from the 3-point line and 9-for-28 overall the first two games in Las Vegas. After knocking down 37.8 percent of his 3-point attempts in college, this was a rough start. He also totaled only four assists and eight total rebounds after showcasing better playmaking as his college career went on.
While Trier struggled at shooting guard, he got things going after his role was changed. Once he was shifted over to point guard to replace Frank Ntilikina, who was injured, things clicked. New York is hoping to see more performances like point guard Trier provided instead of shooting guard Trier.
