Zaza Pachulia is taking his vast NBA experience to the Detroit Pistons. Let’s take a look at three reasons this was a good pickup.

The Detroit Pistons entered the 2018 NBA offseason lacking the financial resources to add a big-name free agent to their roster. The goal this summer was to add some depth and support to their Big 3 of Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson. Adding Zaza Pachulia to the lineup is a step in the right direction.

The Pistons agreed to sign Pachulia to a one-year, $2.4 million minimum contract. While signing the Georgian big man won’t necessarily excite the fanbase, the addition of Pachulia gives the team a viable backup to Drummond. He will also bring strong veteran leadership to the second unit.

Though some Pistons fans were upset with this signing, there are reasons to believe that he can become a valuable contributor to the roster. Sure, he’s slow, limited and 34 years old entering the twilight of his career.

However, some of the qualities he brings to Detroit are exactly what the roster needs. Let’s take a look at three reasons Zaza Pachulia was a good pickup.
