1. New Orleans Pelicans

Finally, a trade destination with some legs, as the New Orleans Pelicans have shown some interest in trading for Schroder. According to WDSU‘s Fletcher Mackel, the Pelicans “had discussions” concerning a possible Schroder trade. In many ways, it makes a lot of sense.

With Rajon Rondo now with the Los Angeles Lakers and no legitimate backup point guard, the Pelicans could get Schroder and either serve as Jrue Holiday‘s backup or start at the point alongside him. Anthony Davis would easily become Schroder’s best pick-and-roll dance partner.

Other than draft picks (likely a second-rounder), stretch-4 Nikola Mirotic and/or small forward Solomon Hill seem like the likeliest candidates to move to Atlanta in the event of a trade.

The Pels appear interested in keeping Mirotic, but he becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of this coming season; that could force New Orleans’ hand. Hill is under contract until next season, but the Pelicans can trade him without worrying about going over the cap and the Hawks can easily absorb his salary. A trade is feasible, but it depends on how much the Pels want Schroder.

For the Pelicans, the legal issues are the biggest question mark, which explains their apprehension in trading for him. But a move to the Pelicans makes the most sense given that they were one of the only teams to express interest in Schroder.
