3. Sacramento Kings

After missing out on Zach LaVine, the Sacramento Kings could pursue Schroder for an added scoring punch. He would be a significant upgrade over Frank Mason III as De’Aaron Fox‘s understudy and the Kings are one of the few teams that can absorb his contract.

Since Schroder possesses many of the same strengths and weaknesses as Fox — and is a bit older — he would probably have to take a bench role if he joined the Kings. As a backup, Schroder could feast on opposing second units, but do the Kings really want to spend over $15 million on a backup? And would Schroder be willing to take a demotion?

Basketball-wise, it’s the only reason why the Kings would bring him in. However, I don’t know what the Kings would send back for him outside of a future second round pick.

I would imagine that Fox and second overall pick Marvin Bagley III are off limits. I don’t think they’d swap Zach Randolph‘s expiring contract for a multi-year deal, but these are the Kings. I also find it hard to believe that Atlanta would want the likes of Buddy Hield, Willie Cauley-Stein or any of Sacramento’s veteran players.

A deal to attain Schroder seems unlikely, but these are the Kings. They were willing to plunk down nearly $20 million on Zach LaVine a week ago. It wouldn’t surprise me if they tried to get Schroder.
