How he fits

Over the course of his 12-year career, Rondo’s style of play has become crystal clear to those who watch. A facilitator with an intelligence level unseen in league history, Rondo needs the ball in his hands in order to succeed.

Given his unique set of skills coupled with inconsistent shooting, it’s proven difficult for any team to deploy Rondo without giving him sole control of the offense, and that is where his fit within the Lakers is questionable at best.

We all know how well LeBron James operates as the sole creator for his team, capable of carrying a pile of scraps to the NBA Finals, but then there’s also Lonzo Ball, whose development hinges on having the opportunity to run Luke Walton‘s offense.

Let’s also not forget about Lance Stephenson who, like his three new teammates, is at his best when able to create for himself and others.

Where Rondo ranks in the pecking order of these creators isn’t the point. Rather, with his value rooted in his talent as a true point guard, it’s hard to envision a scenario in which Los Angeles gets the most out of those abilities given the circumstances around him.
