Detroit Pistons: 5 takeaways from 2018 NBA Summer League
1. This Summer League roster won’t produce this season
The majority of the rotation is set this season. The team goes two-deep at every position, which will make it difficult for anyone to earn regular playing time this season. Thomas, Brown and Ellenson will be the only players that could see the floor on a regular basis. However, they may also receive a lot of Did Not Play – Coach’s Decisions this season.
Outside of those three, there won’t be anyone that should crack the rotation. The remainder of the roster hardly produced in Summer League. Even these three didn’t produce efficiently, as previously mentioned. Casey should spend this season evaluating how the roster is currently constructed and giving every player a fair shake. Since the team won’t contend for a title this season, every player will have time on the floor.

Summer League is not always an accurate predictor of future success. Stephen Curry struggled in Summer League. Clearly, those predictions weren’t 100 percent accurate moving forward. However, this summer roster should most likely end up with similar production in its first season. Some of them may earn some playing time, but it’s highly unlikely that they do anything of note.
