The San Antonio Spurs just might be better off letting their All-Star forward go this offseason.
San Antonio Spurs fans have had a special place in their hearts for Kawhi Leonard for a long time. But as the saying goes, if you love them, let them go.
Although there is no love lost between Leonard and the Spurs at the moment, it’s not crazy to think that the Spurs might be better off without him. It sounds strange to say that a competitive franchise should give up on someone who is arguably a top-five player in the NBA, but there are more reasons than you might think that this relationship needs to end.
After you get past the knee-jerk reaction that losing Leonard is a big blow for the organization, you can start to see that rebuilding without him is the right path for San Antonio. There is a lot to be excited about, too. Lonnie Walker IV and Chimezie Metu were great draft selections by the Spurs and if they can bring over some more talented young players as part of a Kawhi Leonard trade, then they will have a bright future to work towards.
