Oklahoma City Thunder: 5 takeaways from 2018 NBA Summer League
2. P.J. Dozier needs to get looks at point guard
P.J. Dozier did not get much of a look with the NBA squad last year. He played in only two games and posted a grand total of two points in his three minutes of action. In the G League, however, Dozier posted 12.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game for the Blue.
In Summer League, Dozier averaged 11.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He showed that he can make decisions in the open floor and with his size at 6’6″, he would make a good backup point guard option.
The Thunder are looking to get players that will be able to get the ball in the middle in the floor and distribute to shooters. A young point guard like Dozier could be that option.
With a lot of G-League playing time and two Summer Leagues under his belt, Dozier should look to make a move to the NBA. The way he can do that is by getting his assist numbers up.
He will have to look to set players up more. With the great players that the Thunder have in the G League, that should not be difficult. The Thunder also have Diallo, Hall and Hervey, who will most likely play with the Blue.
There is more than enough firepower that he can distribute the ball more.
