Houston Rockets: How will Michael Carter-Williams fit in next year?
By Jason Elbaum
How he affects the current roster
Even outside of his questionable jump shot, the fit with the Rockets offense for Carter-Williams does not make much sense. He is not particularly known for his ability to push the ball up the floor and run the fast break, so the Rockets could be slowed down into their half-court offense while Carter-Williams is filling in for Chris Paul off the bench.
Even despite this fact, MCW should not have much competition in training camp to become the backup point guard for Chris Paul. The only foreseeable way that Carter-Williams ends up riding the bench is if Mike D’Antoni continues to use James Harden and Eric Gordon as his point guards when Paul is resting.
If D’Antoni does decide to stay with Harden and Gordon as his secondary ball-handlers, Carter-Williams could potentially still have a role as a shooting guard who is primarily on the floor for his defense.
During his 2013-14 campaign with the Philadelphia 76ers, he averaged 1.9 steals per game to lead all rookies. Unfortunately for the Rockets, Carter-Williams never improved on his Rookie of the Year campaign numbers, but has still managed to maintain a decent steal numbers throughout his short career.
