1. He’s an insurance policy

Given his less than stellar reputation and his desire for a max contract, DeMarcus Cousins should be able to play nice in what will more than likely be his first and only season in Golden State.

However, given his short fuse that’s led to plenty of problems both on and off the court and the millions of dollars at stake that could lead to Boogie trying to stand out rather than fit in, there is the slightest of possibilities Cousins doesn’t thrive in Golden State.

Should Boogie fail to mesh with his new team, it would leave plenty of minutes for the taking heading into the 2019 NBA Playoffs.

Because Golden State chose not to bring back Pachulia or McGee, Looney is the only other viable option at the center position. Jordan Bell is still finding his footing, while Damian Jones has played sparingly in two seasons with the Warriors.

Looney isn’t some ring-chasing veteran brought in one a one-year deal, similar to the likes of his now former teammates. This is a guy who’s shown steady improvement since entering the league with championship experience and an understanding of how to play with his teammates.

He may not carry the same cache as Cousins, nor may he provide anything close to the same skill-set, but Looney would do a fine job as the fifth starter if Boogie proves incapable of doing so.
