Bringing in Kyle O’Quinn may not seem like the biggest of storylines, but his presence could prove crucial for the Indiana Pacers this upcoming season.

After a surprising playoff run that saw them come within a game of the conference semis, the Indiana Pacers weren’t ones to sit idly by and watch other teams improve via free agency.

Among the few transactions Indiana made was agreeing to a one-year, $4.5 million deal with former New York Knicks center Kyle O’Quinn, according to Yahoo! Sports‘ Shams Charania.

A former second round pick back in 2012, O’Quinn has worked hard to become a serviceable big man in the NBA, providing valuable minutes to the Knicks the last three seasons.

Once the Pacers released veteran Al Jefferson, it was clear they would need someone in his place capable of backing up starting center Myles Turner.

His numbers may not jump off the table, but KOQ is capable of being a spark off the bench, a guy who can come in and contribute in a variety of ways for a Pacers team on the rise in the Eastern Conference.
