As the Kawhi Leonard saga continues to drag on, here’s a four-team, blockbuster trade proposal involving the Philadelphia 76ers.
It’s now closing in on mid-July, and Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs’ fractured relationship appears no closer to a resolution.
With Leonard reportedly seeking a trade from the franchise that helped build him into a two-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year, speculation continues to swirl as to where the now 27-year-old Leonard will be playing when the 2018-19 season commences.
Naturally, when a player of Leonard’s stature becomes disgruntled and consequently available for trade discussions, there are going to be a host of teams competing for his services. To date, the most prominent team to come forward with a proposal has been the Los Angeles Lakers, with their subsequent discussions seemingly not progressing.
Another team that has been mentioned as a possible landing spot is the Philadelphia 76ers. With some intriguing talent on board and some high-end draft picks at their disposal, the rising Sixers seem like a logical choice, as recently detailed by Chris Haynes of ESPN:
"“Sixers are the only Eastern Conference team [Kawhi] will consider signing with … Philly has a really, really good chance.”"
It certainly doesn’t hurt the Sixers’ chances that head coach Brett Brown has some history with Leonard from his time as an assistant with the Spurs. Given the trajectory of the Sixers moving forward, and the opportunity to play with elite talent such as Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, a move to the weakened Eastern Conference with an exciting up-and-coming roster would make sense.
So with the league seemingly at an impasse as this saga drags on, here’s a proposition for a four-team, blockbuster deal involving the Philadelphia 76ers.
