The New York Knicks have signed Mario Hezonja to a one-year deal. How will “Super Mario” fit in with head coach David Fizdale’s roster?

On the first day of free agency, the New York Knicks and Croatian forward Mario Hezonja agreed to a one-year, $6.5 million deal.

Hezonja burst onto the basketball scene as an exciting European prospect playing for FC Barcelona, one of the continent’s biggest basketball powerhouses. His skills wowed NBA eyes, leading him to be drafted No. 5 overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic.

Three years later, however, Hezonja hasn’t lived up to the expectations of a top-five pick. Through 219 career games, he is averaging 6.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. He is also shooting 41.8 percent from the field and 33.2 percent from 3-point range.

With such uninspiring numbers, the Magic elected to decline the team option on the fourth year of his rookie-scale contract. This allowed Hezonja to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Hezonja decided to take this opportunity to start anew in another city. He now arrives in New York hoping to make a difference. With new head coach David Fizdale at the helm, will Mario Hezonja be able to carve out a role on this young Knicks squad?
