Milwaukee Bucks: 3 reasons Brook Lopez is a good pickup
3. Adds depth at the center spot
With three centers already on the roster, one wouldn’t blame the fanbase for wondering why the team is in need of another big man. However, after the Bucks traded Greg Monroe early last season, the trio of John Henson, Thon Maker and Tyler Zeller didn’t always provide the kind of production the Bucks needed.
In fact, these three players averaged 19 points and 15 boards per contest between the three of them. On the other side of the coin, yes, Lopez had a down year in his lone season with the Los Angeles Lakers, as he posted averages of 13.0 points (his lowest scoring output since his rookie season) and 4.0 rebounds per game (his lowest rebounding average since the 2011-12 campaign in which he suited up in just five games).
To be fair, though, it should be noted that he played a career-low 23.4 minutes per outing, which more than likely contributed to his decreased production.
During the course of his career, however, Lopez holds averages of 17.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest, thus making him an instant upgrade to what the Bucks had to work with at the center position last season.
