The Detroit Pistons won’t be competing for titles this season, but they will be competing for a playoff spot, and there will be some roster battles to watch.

The Detroit Pistons are heading into the 2018-19 season with more than one starting position up for grabs. While their three stars — Reggie Jackson, Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin — are locked into their spots, the rest of rotation is up in the air. The team won’t be competing for a title this season, which gives Dwane Casey some flexibility.

Players like Luke Kennard and Reggie Bullock both have their own respective cases for starting. Casey made a name for himself with the Toronto Raptors by developing strong bench play. Whoever he chooses to be the main piece in the rotation will be the right choice. His knack for choosing the right player and pressing the right buttons is what led the Raptors up the standings over the course of his tenure in Toronto.

He’ll maintain that ability with this team. The Pistons are building the foundation to make a push back to championship contention. In the past nine seasons, they have only made a single postseason appearance.

However, they appear poised to add to that number this year. A new head coach brings with him a new system that has proven successful in the past. He also has no favorites with this new roster, so everyone has an equal shot when training camp opens. Here’s a look at three roster battles to keep an eye on heading into 2018-19.
