The verdict

The Dallas Mavericks have done themselves incredibly proud. DeAndre Jordan addresses a huge amount of their needs. If they play their cards right and build the team around him, Jordan would probably feel inclined to sign on for a long-term contract next summer.

Jordan is going to be a huge shakeup for a team that has focused on one player for the entire century. It is going to be a huge change for all involved.

For years, the franchise has been talking about who it will build around once Dirk goes. First it was Chandler Parsons then Harrison Barnes. Even though DSJ and Doncic are the future, Jordan is the player who moves the needle and will move the Mavericks out of their current slump in the meantime.

Up until Jordan committed to the Mavericks, I was sure they were going to be in for a total rebuild. They were not going to be as bad as the teams in the early 90s, but they were going to struggle. Jordan agreeing to terms has sped this process up by years and the Mavericks are dangerous again.
