1. He’s clearly motivated to improve
There are a solid amount of undrafted players who make it onto NBA rosters. How many of those go on to make large contributions to their respective teams? Even fewer.
Fred VanVleet is one of those few, and he doesn’t appear content with any of it.
Raw talent can only get one so far in the NBA. It’s about growing and developing every day that creates a long and prosperous career.
Fred VanVleet signed with the Raptors as an undrafted FA in 2016. He made 16 trips up and down from the D-League in his rookie year and earned less than $1.9 million in his first 2 NBA seasons combined. He'll make $18 million over the next 2.

Bet on yourself, kids.
If VanVleet could rise from nothing to become an important piece on a playoff team in just two seasons, there’s no telling what could follow in the coming years. By signing only a two-year deal, VanVleet will continue to bet on his work ethic and growth, a tactic that’s clearly paid off during his journey to the NBA.
