How he affects the current roster

Shabazz Napier averaged 20.7 minutes per game last season. Seth Curry will likely come in and take all of those minutes. He will be the first guard off of the bench, coming in for C.J. McCollum towards the end of the first quarter. Curry will then fill in for Damian Lillard when he sits out at the start of the second quarter.

When Curry is on the court with Lillard, he will likely play off-ball while Dame runs the point. Curry will get his chance to handle the ball more when McCollum joins him on the floor. However, in both instances, each player is more than capable of exchanging on-ball/off-ball duties on any given play.

Curry could also find himself in the occasional three-guard lineup alongside Lillard and McCollum. The trio of Lillard, McCollum, and Napier appeared together in 52 games and came away with a +22.0 net rating in 2017-18. Adding Curry’s offensive versatility could make that lineup even tougher to deal with.

While Curry is already cemented into the rotation, there is always a chance for players lower on the depth chart to take away some minutes. He will have to look out for fellow acquisition Nik Stauskas, who will see minutes at both shooting guard and small forward. Backup point guard Wade Baldwin IV could also eat at some of his time on the floor if he develops as a reliable playmaker later in the season.
