Last season

There wasn’t a last season for Seth Curry, as he spent the entire 2017-18 campaign on the sidelines. He was first ruled out indefinitely in early October due to a stress reaction in his left tibia. Eventually, it was determined his injury would require surgery. On Feb. 6, he was officially ruled out for the remainder of the year.

With Curry out, the Mavericks went 24-58 in 2017-18. The starting off-guard role he normally played was fulfilled mainly by Wesley Matthews. Matthews usually started at small forward when Curry was healthy, but was forced to move up a position in his absence.

The year before, Curry had the best season of his young NBA career. In 70 games, he averaged 12.8 points, 2.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 29.0 minutes per game. All of those numbers were career highs.

Dallas finished 2016-17 with a 33-49 record, failing to make the playoffs for the first time in four seasons. The Mavs started the year 2-13 and could never recover, but went 20-22 in the games that Curry started.
