The Detroit Pistons lost Anthony Tolliver to the Minnesota Timberwolves. They need to replace his ability to stretch the floor as a big man in free agency.

The Detroit Pistons lost Anthony Tolliver to the Minnesota Timberwolves when he agreed to sign with them last week. While Tolliver was only a depth piece, he filled a very big role on this team.

Stretch-4s are necessary for all teams, and the Pistons are currently without one due to the lack of development of Henry Ellenson. There are a few options still out there in free agency that the team can consider to replace Tolliver’s 43.6 percent 3-point shooting from last season.

Tolliver was the only member of the frontcourt that shot above 34.8 percent last season. Currently under contract at the power forward position are Blake Griffin, Jon Leuer and Ellenson. None of these players are close to the marksman that Tolliver is. Griffin is the top shooter at a blazing 32.4 percent career average. The team would be wise to free up cap space by trading the contract of Leuer. That would enable them to add a shooting big man.

The team does still have some money to add players with their Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception (MLE). With the majority of teams short for cash, this would limit the market for a lot of the available players.

Due to the Pistons’ Big 3 of Reggie Jackson, Griffin and Andre Drummond having limited range, they need floor-spacing. While Luke Kennard and Reggie Bullock can help with that, the team will need more shooting. A cheap stretch-4 would go a long way.
