3. Memphis Grizzlies

With Mike Conley and Marc Gasol coming back in good health next year, a low playoff seed is a reasonable expectation for the Memphis Grizzlies. Jaren Jackson Jr and Jevon Carter added to the roster, and bringing in Ellington would bolster this playoff push. Additionally, the Grizz need someone to make up for the floor-spacing they lost when Tyreke Evans bolted for the Indiana Pacers.

When looking at his first stint in Memphis, it appears as though Ellington’s numbers were unimpressive.

This time around with expanded minutes, Ellington could prove that his 3-point percentage was not a fluke. Having already spent 40 games in Memphis, Ellington would have a seamless transition into their team culture.

This potential signing would also make Wayne Selden expendable, as his contract becomes fully guaranteed on July 10. The Grizzlies would be making a wise cap decision by waiving Selden and then signing Ellington using their $8.6 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception.
