Indiana Pacers: How will Doug McDermott fit in next year?
Last season
The 2017-18 campaign was another rollercoaster ride for Doug McDermott.
After landing in New York as part of the deal that sent Carmelo Anthony to the Oklahoma City Thunder, McDermott became a nice rotation piece off the bench for the Knicks.
He was never one to score in bunches, but McDermott shot well from beyond the arc at 38.7 percent in 55 games, providing the dead-eye shooting that all NBA teams are craving for these days.
There were a couple of breakout performances for the one they used to call McBuckets, but overall he simply provided a steady presence from outside the arc.
Then, at the trade deadline, the Knicks shipped McDermott to Dallas in a three-team deal, another stop for the man only trying to earn his stripes in the league.
Whether due to a change of scenery or really wanting to earn a long-term deal, McDermott shot the ball extremely well over a 26-game span with the Mavericks.
His scoring increased by just 1.8 points per game, but his 3-point percentage skyrocketed to 49.4 percent, seemingly an unexplainable phenomenon.
